In First Grade your child will:
•Understand grade level Catholic doctrine.
•Be able to recite prayers.
•Participate in liturgical and classroom activities.
•Learn about saints, parables, and the rosary.
•Dress up as his/her favorite saint and participate in a saints parade on All Saints Day.
•Participate in skits, songs, arts and crafts, as well as outreach projects to enhance their understanding of Jesus and their Catholic identity.
Operations and Algebraic Thinking:
•Understand and apply properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.
•Work with addition and subtraction equations.
Number and Operations in Base Ten:
•Extend the counting sequence.
•Count to 120 starting at any number less than 120.
•Understand place value.
•Use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract.
Measurement and Data:
•Compare length, volume, and weight using standard units.
•Tell and write time to the hour and 1/2 hour.
•Represent and interpret data.
•Collect, record, and organize data.
•Ask and answer questions about total number of data points; how many more or less are in one category than another.
•Reason with shapes and their attributes.
•Compose two dimensional shapes.
•Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the word haves, fourths and quarters.
