Update from Mother Elaine on 8th Grade Graduation and Serving on Old Saybrook Re-Opening Committees

May 22 2020

Good Afternoon! I hope you re enjoying the beautiful weather. Tomorrow begins Memorial Day Weekend. Sunday and Monday are to be lovely days. Enjoy the weather and time-off from distance learning.

Last Friday, Mrs. Graham and I traveled to each 8th grader's home to drop off their caps and gowns. Mrs. Graham and I were on the road for 4 1/2 hours. We enjoyed our brief time with our 8th graders. Rick, our 8th grade photographer followed us in his car and took pictures and videos of our 8th graders receiving their graduation video. This Wednesday, our 8th graders had their pictures taken. Each 8th grader came to the church steps at 15 min intervals. The 8th grader was videoed and had pictures taken in cap and grown. In addition,  a virtual class picture was taken. We followed social distancing and state regulations. A fun time was had by all! The class of 2020 will have a wonderful class video to remember this unique year. I am so proud of our 8th graders. Next week I will tell you about their drive-by graduation on June 5th, their original graduation day. Once again, please join me in congratulating the 8th graders. More information will be forth-coming next week.

I have been asked to serve on the Town of Old Saybrook's education sub-committee for the reopening of schools. We are planning for the future. We will be following all state guidelines and working on the best plans and policies for eventual reopening of our school for in-person learning. In addition, Nurse Nancy and I are serving on the Town of Old Saybrook’s health sub-committee. As I know more, I will keep you informed.

A pick up/drop off time will be scheduled the week of June 8th. Students will be able to retrieve their belongings. Students will return all school owned materials. More details will follow next week. A schedule will be set up by individual teachers. We will be following all the steps for  social guidelines and the school building is still  closed to everybody but teachers and staff for everyone's safety.   Please know, I am praying for you daily. I keep all of you close to my heart daily and know that you are loved by God and I certainly love you as well.

God Bless you-

Mother Elaine
