SJS Student Council helps shine a light on the power of the rosary & Our Lady of Fatima

Oct 13 2017

On Friday, October 13, the SJS Student Council, under the supervision of 8th grade teacher Mrs. Graham, beautifully planned and organized a school wide rosary at St John Church to honor the Miracle of the Sun in Fatima.  Father Martin began by explaining that the origin of the prayer of the rosary began in 1221 when St. Dominic was moved by a vision of Our Lady and preached the use of the rosary.  Follow this link to learn more about the Miracle of the Sun.

The Student Council began by researching the miracles of Our Lady of Fatima and how others have honored this feast day.  Each of the older classes was paired up with their “buddies” to lead the school in praying the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.  Students laid white roses at the foot of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima after each of the Sorrowful mysteries was announced.  Prayer was concluded with the SJS Choir leading all in singing Immaculate Mary.

What is quite notable is that this was a schoolwide event.  Tiny Pre K 3 and 4 year olds and Kindergarteners held their buddies hands and were patiently and lovingly encouraged to sit still to pray.  Mother Elaine noted how proud she was of the students for the reverence with which they prayed, and how pleasing this was to God.

The SJS Student Council did an incredible job in planning a beautiful prayer service.  SJS is gratified to help form these future Catholic leaders, and look forward to how these young men and women will continue to impress.
